Save Homeless Carol Channing !

Carol Channing is one of the few people who makes me smile every time I see her. Its not just her big eyes, even bigger eyelashes and fluffy wigs its her enthusiasm, wide eyed innocence and her boundless energy. Even at the age of ….God knows 102, maybe?

She’s still out there performing. Lord knows she schlepped halfway round the world for half a century in Hello Dolly, surely that’s even longer than Cher’s farewell tour and even now, there’s no stopping her, she recently married her childhood sweetheart from seven decades ago, despite outing her last husband of 50 yrs and admitting the last time she had sex was when Eisenhower was in the white House! You’d think that would have put her off marriage for life but not our Carol

Carol has her very own new website (see what I mean by no stopping her) and I recently contacted her representatives via the site, to enquire if Carol would be bringing her current one woman show, The First 80 Years Are The Hardest, to London.

Imagine my horror when they informed me they had tried but failed to get a venue to take her.

What! .......

Carol is a bona fide theatrical legend and institution(and lord knows they're thin on the ground these days). Why aren’t venues biting her hand off? Especially when you see some of the old tat that passes for West End Theatre these days! (Neve Campbell and Woody Harrelson you know who you are!) How many more chances are we going to get to see THE Dolly in action? Shame on you London Theatre-land someone give this woman a venue!

Its not like One (old) Woman shows don’t sell! Look at Elaine Stritch and Bea Arthur both recently embalmed and rolled out onto a London stage for the public’s delight. I even wrote to Mr Spacey given that he has a spot to fill at the moment but to no avail! Apparently he'd rather keep the lights off at The Old Vic!

So Theatre go-ers of London whip out your trusty platignums and dash off a letter to your local impresario and demand a home for Carol Channing.

Together we can make a difference.

Help save an old theatrical legend today.
